The SF MSA01 Ambient Light Sensor is a smart light intensity sensor designed for precise lux measurements in various environments. Using a high-sensitivity photodiode and photopic spectral filtering, it measures illuminance across a wide 1–54,388 Lux range. Data is broadcast at configurable intervals via Bluetooth® LE 5.0. The integrated tamper switch immediately sends alerts upon removal, providing continuous monitoring. Installation is tool-free with industrial adhesive backing, making it ideal for smart homes, offices, commercial lighting, agricultural greenhouses, laboratory environments, and cultural heritage applications.

What is Lux Level?

Lux, often referred to as "foot-candles," quantifies the amount of natural or artificial light striking a surface. While lumens measure the total light output, lux indicates how much of that light actually lands on a given area. In practical terms, one lux equals one lumen per square meter (1 lm/m²). So if a light source emits one lumen and that light is distributed evenly across a one-square-meter surface, the illuminance on that surface is one lux.

Spectral Accuracy

The SF MSA01 sensor delivers exceptional perceptual precision. Its optical filters and photodiode are precisely tuned to align with the human eye's photopic sensitivity curve (peaking at 555 nm), with the SF MSA01's own response peaking at 560 nm—a remarkably close match. This ensures the sensor accurately reports perceived brightness, not just raw illuminance values. Such spectral accuracy is crucial for applications like museum exhibits, laboratory settings, and human-centric lighting systems, where precise light interpretation, as seen by humans, is essential.

Customizable Light Threshold Alerts

The SF MSA01 goes beyond simple brightness readings, allowing users to set a custom light threshold (e.g., 10,000 Lux for growing vegetables in greenhouses). When the measured light crosses this predefined level, the device instantly broadcasts an alert, triggering automated responses like dimming, alarms, or system notifications. This capability ensures simple and effective real-time control in light-critical environments.

Anti-Tamper Security A built-in tamper switch immediately detects unauthorized removal or impact. When triggered, the SF MSA01 broadcasts at 1-second intervals for 30 seconds on the Tamper Channel, providing instant notification to the security system and administration.

Seamless Integration & Configuration With its BLE broadcast capability, the SF MSA01 integrates effortlessly with cloud gateways, building management systems, and edge controllers. Factory pre-pairing and a zero-configuration adhesive mount allow for the deployment of dozens of units in minutes, not hours.

Exceptional Signal Stability

Fluorescent and LED lighting often introduces 50Hz/60Hz flicker—an invisible form of noise that can distort ambient light readings. The SF MSA01 is engineered with intelligent signal processing that actively rejects low-frequency light fluctuations, delivering clean, consistent lux measurements even in electrically noisy environments. This ensures lighting control systems, lab monitors, and heritage protection setups rely on stable, trustworthy data at all times.
